There's more to see and do in The Great Waters than you can imagine. Here each season unfolding brings us something worth remembering. The Great Waters is a place where you think with your heart and feel with your senses.

Anchored by 33 amazing natural and cultural attractions and three themed driving trails, the land is rich with miracles of nature and steeped in history.  The Nature Conservancy refers to this land as “one of the last great places on Earth.”  We tend to agree.

So come explore the trails of The Great Waters or find adventure off the beaten path, because there's nowhere else in this world quite like the eastern end of Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

The Great Waters of Pure Michigan is a collaboration of eastern Upper Peninsula counties.  Member counties pool their resources to share information about the beauty and hidden treasures that lie within this region.  The Great Waters Board of Directors as of April 12, 2018 include the following:

  • Kathy Reynolds, President, Alger Co
  • Linda Hoath, Vice President/Treasurer, Chippewa Co
  • Dave Lorenz, Ex-Officio, Pure Michigan
  • Cori Cearley, Alger Co
